This week we have learned about open sourced and close sourced.
Open-source refers to the software whose source code is available for anybody to access and modify, while proprietary software refers to the software which is solely owned by the individual or publisher who developed it
Difference Between Open Source and Proprietary Software
Advantage of open source software
- Open source gives users more control right
- Because the code is open, you can look at every single line of code to make sure that the software doesn’t do anything that we don’t want it to do.
- open source can makes people learning easier and faster. With the source code, we can quickly understand how the software works.
Advantage of close source software
- If something goes wrong, you don’t need to fix it by yourself, customer service will solve the problem.
- much safer than open source software,it is not easy for hacker to attack it cause the source is not open so not everyone can use it.

Android and IOS are the example of open source and closed source, people are always argue about which one is the better system for our mobile phone. However, there is not right and wrong answer, because the needs of each user are different.
This is really great! I like how you put down the pros and cons of open and closed sources…I never thought about the customer service side of it and safety from hacking- really great points 🙂 I think closed source is pretty easy because it’s all just there for you, especially if you don’t really know too much about programming…but then if you want to go out of the bounds and personalise your own product, open is better. Awesome post

Hey Allen,
I like your comparison of both open and closed softwares and your hyperlinked source is very informative. In terms of iOS and Android, I definitely agree that people choose one over the other based on personal preference and different needs. I also talked about the two as they’re the most obvious examples, here’s the website I used in my post which goes deeper into it, https://www.howtogeek.com/217593/android-is-open-and-ios-is-closed-but-what-does-that-mean-to-you/

Hey There,
Enjoyed reading your blog!,
i liked how you described the Difference Between Open Source and Proprietary Software, your blog was completely different compared to what i wrote as my topic was focusing on Media convergence and the example of the decline in print versions as digital platforms are overtaking.
This article https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1367877904040603, gives a greater understanding into media convergence and the transition shaping the media environment for the coming decade.
Enjoy!
