In the past year, the education mode has changed a lot by the impact of COVID-19. In response to the COVID-19 prevention policy, most of Universities have closed the campus and switched to remote study. For me, online study has brought me great convenience in this year because I can not go to Australia during the spread of COVID-19. I was really anxious when I saw the policy that Australia didn’t allow Chinese people to go to the country , I was afraid that my graduation time would be delay.

However,I was really happy when I heard the news that online course will be available for students who can not attend to the class in the campus. I’m very glad to be born in the age with advanced technology, it is impossible to move everything online in 10 years ago when Internet was not developed enough.

Remote study did provide lots of convinience for everyone who have Internet in their home.Therefore, I am thinking will remote study totally take the role of offline study in the future? To answer this questions, I need to think about the advantages/disadvantages for remote study.

Advantages:

1.Consider about the long-lasting of COVID-19, online course is undoubtedly the most direct and effective way to ensure students’ study career at this moment which can also avoid the delay of student’s academic progress.

2.Remote study also break the space limit of offline study, student can watch their online tutorial at anywhere which is so convenient for student who live far away from his/her school. Student can also watch their lecture/tutorial record as many times as they want if they didn’t understand the content from the lecture.

Disadvantages:

1.Students need to improve their self-discipline to complete online courses,in online courses students can see their teacher but teacher can not see his students.(since face reveal is not mandatory for lots of online courses) Some of students might be distracted/do not listen to the class carefully, it is also hard for tutor to find the student who did not pay attention to the class. Therefore, online study requires students to have the skill of self-discipline and be actively and conscientiously to complete different online courses.

2.In traditional classes, it is really easy for teacher to interact with students. Teacher will have a certain impact on students by his expression,action,manner and language.Teachers can also have a better understanding with the situation of students through face-to-face class meeting, and these communication are participated by real emotions. However, most of tutors are playing the role of “teacher” and won’t pay attention to students emotions.

3. Online study is not friendly and appropriate for children’s early education, the classroom atmosphere is determined by the teacher and student and teaching environment.When little kids are studying in class,the teacher’s teaching emotion and the competition of the surrounding students (competing to answer questions) will affect children’s mood ino the class to promote children’s positive thinking. However, it is impossible to create such a learning atmosphere through online study. There is no direct contact between children and teacher, it is difficult for teacher to control chidren’s emotion.

4.It is hard for children to watch live tutorial/lecture record because children doesn’t have the ability of self-study since they are too young. Let’s take an example of learning language, during the class teacher will need to communicate with children include physical communication (high fives), verbal communication (Q & A). Communication and interaction are necessary in early education, offline study is the best option for children. In online study, children can only watch the screen for learning but can not participate. As we know, the witness gains more than the bystander.It is way easier for children to obtain knowledge in offline study.

5. Online class will have different kinds of “accidents” such as Internet lagging. For senior students and adults, the impact may be just the mood of listening, thinking, etc.For children, if they are focus on one thing and it’s suddenly interrupted, it will reduce their interest to listen to the class. Childhood is the most important period for children to develop their interest and habits and it is very precious,different kinds of Internet accident will bring negative affect to children’s future development.In the traditional classroom, teachers will establish emotional connection with children in the process of teaching. Even if something goes wrong in the classroom, as long as the teacher changes the teaching method and he can easily deal with it without affecting the children’s learning ideas and interests.

Conclusion:

I believe that online courses will be integrated with offline interactive teaching rather than replaced it in the future,it is also the trend of future education. Online education can not replace the role of offline education,however, both of them should learn the advantages from each other and also promoting with each other and existing with each other. Online/Offline education is an integral part of human’s society whether it is now and in the future.

Online class is a way to present educational content,it move our study from the classroom to the live tutorial. In the past 10 years students were seating across to the desk so they can talk to each other, nowadays technology have make a group of people collectively turning to the computer/mobile devices. I am very lucky to born in the age with advanced techonology, although I can only make prediction about what will happen in education industry after ten years, I am still really excited to witness what will happen after ten years!

Reflection:

I really learned a lot from this subject, it makes me understand the importance of the ability of storytelling. Word can be really powerful, it is necessary for me to improve the ability of communication as well. In the assessment 2 I have made a short interview with my sister who was already work in a company over 4 years, the experienced from my sister really inspired me a lot and I believe these work skills will be useful for me no matter what kind of job will I choose in the future. I also learned a lots when I was listen to my classmate’s story, it is really touching to hear someone eles’s story and its all about the skill of storytelling.

In the future, I will bring my passion to my future career which is education industry. I won’t forget about what I have learned in this subject and the experienced will be precious for me for sure.
