#BCM112 Internet paradigm IV: Hyperreality, Simulation, Spectacle

This week we have learned about hyperreality.

Hyperreality, in semiotics and postmodernism, is an inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation of reality, especially in technologically advanced postmodern societies.

When I think about hyperreality, the first person that appear in my mind is Nikola Tesla. Who is the most god-like man in my heart.

Tesla was an engineer known for designing the alternating-current (AC) electric system, which is still the predominant electrical system used across the world today. He also created the “Tesla coil,” which is still used in radio technology.

However, Tesla have a “superpower” which is a kind of hyperreality. He can do every experiment in his mind base on the knowledge that he knew already, which can save a huge amount of cost and time. This means if he got enough equipment and time, he can develop anything he wants.

In today’s society, with the developed of technology, we are getting closer and closer to hyperreality. We have Virtual Reality and also Augmented Reality to realize the effect of hyperreality.
